Black folks are Indigenous. Period. Blackness is a communal ancestral experience, rooted to the continent of Afrika but not exclusive to it. Not all Black folks have even seen our homelands, but we are not alone in that.
that fact does not change who we are.

the workings.

Indigenous folks around the world have been practicing healing of all kinds, since we’ve been on this Earth; we have always had Medicine. under settler colonialism we are not allowed to say these words in connection to our practices. but we know. and we have always known.

herbalism is a lifepath and a support structure, but it does not work the same way allopathic (common) medicine does. Pharmacy drugs kick the problem in the teeth, but they can often take you down alongside. our plant kin, while more subtle, can often support us in ways that are deeper, more intentional, and farther-reaching than what medication can offer. herbs hold space for you to learn: your mind, body and spirit, and to deepen relationship within yourself.

plant-based spirit work is more than just herbs and roots. it is empathy, laughter, attitude, years spent learning and love, love, love. every one of us is a love letter to the land, if we let ourselves.

the work.

we do Black tings over here. we follow the Sacred Way, we stay in Right Relationship to all of our relatives, human and otherwise. we keep our friends close, and our enemies under our heel. we say what we mean, and we speak how we feel.

healing is our sacred duty. it is a calling. a blood right. a necessity. the act of giving back, giving thanks, being grateful. i am honored to uphold the lifeways of my people. all of my people. to take my steps in our collective dance towards liberation.

i am honored to hold space for Life as she holds space for me.

everything that passes through these hands is meant to be open. meant to uplift, to heal and to help you heal yourself. this is a part of my own personal healing journey. yakoke, thank you for joining me.
